Four by Sara Kate and Rachel Leigh: a Review
I think I've just been digging myself into the reverse harem books but here's another brilliant one that I read on Kindle Unlimited recently! Definitely, an adult romance book that contains triggering topics, so i would advise that you check those before reading. Read responsibly and at your own discretion. Personally, I don't have many triggers so this was actually a really enjoyable read that I was able to sit with during a long coach drive.
I know that reverse harems aren't for everyone but I will say that this one was well-written and always kept you wanting more of the Black boys. every chapter had a good balance of all the boys, with no one being left off the page for too long at any point. I often find that you get characters who disappear for too long when reading books that have more than two main focal characters, but I didn't get that at all when reading this one.
I also loved that each character has their own identifiable character and dynamic with Iris and their relationships aren't linear and idealistic. Baron and Gabriel, for example, don't necessarily have a great relationship with each other as brothers but they will cooperate in order to help their girl Iris get through whatever it is they need to.
Silas also has such a paternal feel to him in the most rugged way. Iris isn't a helpless maiden either which I appreciated as a reader. Sure, not everything about the plot is ethical and I am in no way promoting the idea of torturing someone in order to find out who killed your late father, but I do love the way that Silas supports Iris because it's her wish to do so.
The further you get into this book the more depth each character has. It's nice to see how each character deals with hurt, emotional and physical, as well as the way they navigate more intimate feelings and how the boys learn to share their most prized possession. Iris is their everything and they love her and understand her in ways that are pictured beautifully throughout the plot and climax of the book.
I feel obligated to share one of my favourite quotes:
'Kissing Silas is like loading bullets into a pistol. The damage hasn't been done, but I still feel the power under my fingertips. It could kill me, but if it does, it will be worth it.'
A perfect read for any of my dark romance girlies!
Happy Reading,
Mei
