The Secret of the Serpent by Mikayla D. Hornedo: A Review
This beautiful book was gifted to me by the wonderful Mikayla as an ARC and I am very happy to have been able to read and review it for her! This book is the lovely sequel to the book The Sun The Storm and The Shadows and I have been very excited to write about this one.
This book picks up right where everything left off in book 1 which is always very satisfying and earns the book bonus points from me. I think I forgot how much I missed Cree, Holt, Camilla, and Xio after the first book but it was so easy to just fall back into their stories.
one thing that I like about this book is the magic system and world-building; it's all very satisfying and I'm very excited about the next book. To be perfectly honest sometimes the book felt a little rushed but I think that it also kept the book flowing at a good pace and none of the reading felt laborious because of it.
All the way through this book one thing that I find really quite brilliant is the fluidity of the novel as a whole. Despite the fact that there are five different points of view in this book, each one is cohesive with the others and makes it easy to understand exactly what's going on and when.
OKAY SPOILERS❗
Oh my gods! Valeria and Alli. yes. Oh lord they are so cute I can’t not say anything about it. I really loved their character arcs both individually and together because i think it reflects how you feel when you are falling for someone and you both know it but are too scared to do anything about it.
Holt and Xio’s wedding was adorable and i won’t shut up about it.
But Camila and Cree just disappearing!? Oh that left me in shock.
END OF SPOILERS❗
This is definitely a book for older audiences as there is a fair amount of spice, but I would totally recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of romantasy books like ACOTAR and Red Queen. It is filled with hope and finding light in the darkness with the help of those you choose to have by your side as your chosen family.
Happy Reading,
Mei x
