A Good Girl's Guide To Murder by Holly Jackson: A Review

This week I finally got around to reading one of the most highly suggested books on my ‘to be read’. I also managed to get my hands on the gorgeous collectors edition of this book with the most stunning sprayed edges and foiling (and it even has a lovely ribbon bookmark). It really did live up to my expectations and I read it in around 4 and a half hours over the course of two nights.

The story follows the journey of Pippa Fitz-Amobi as she investigates a cold case from 5 years ago when Andie Bell was supposedly murdered by her boyfriend Sal Singh for her A-level EPQ project. The truth behind the events of that fatal line of events is darker and more twisted than Pippa could have expected and eventually gets tangled up with Ravi Singh. What lengths is she willing to go to uncover the true story? And what unseen danger lurks in the small town of Kilton?

I really loved this book through and through, the little phycological thriller elements that are scattered in this book just added to the whole experience but I also loved getting to read extracts of Pip’s EPQ reports and her inner monologue about the entire situation. The interactions between Ravi and Pip are honestly so well written and the emotion behind the words definitely comes across as we see Ravi warm up to Pip and even get involved in her escapades.

One of my worries when I was reading this book was that it would be awfully predictable but that was not the case as this book had me guessing all the way through. It was darker and more twisted than I expected to be honest, but I'm not mad about it at all.

I definitely was not expecting to cry (but also definitely did). It is the perfect book to curl up under a cosy blanket with a steaming cup of coffee on a lovely autumn day.

Happy Reading,

Mei
