contractual obligations by elle rivers: a review
This week with autumn well and truly in full swing I decided that I would cause you up with a cute little Romance. I have been looking at ‘contractual obligations’ for a while and I was very excited to get to read this one. I was going for the tropes in this read and I'm very happy to say that they did not disappoint.
‘Contractual obligations’ is a standalone romance that follows the story of Lily and Sebastian. Lily is in an arranged marriage where her job is simple; to play the role of a housewife and post to social media in exchange for her inheritance. Lily needs the money from her parents to get away and start her own life but as the contract draws to a close she begins to fear that they might try to extend the arrangement again.
I might be a little biased due to my absolute soft spot for romances like this, but I have to say that this was a very good read and I really enjoyed it. It was very much grumpy x sunshine and I really liked the way that the revelation of Lily's passion for writing and Sebastian's passion for reading became intertwined.
It was a little cliché but I am going to give it a free pass because of how much I really enjoyed the ending of this book. it was very sappy soft and sweet and everything I wanted for the start of my autumn, curled up under the blankets with a cup of hot coffee. The plot is very good but it also has a splash of spice which I really enjoyed. It doesn't overwhelm the plot at all and is just another element of the story, which I'm aware that some books struggle to balance.
Personally, I'm going to be recommending this to all of my friends who need a good romance read for the autumn. I would say that it's appropriate for anybody looking for a good cozy read for ages 14 plus.
Happy reading,
- Mei x
