Our Overtime by S.C Kate: A Review
Hi guys! This week I'm writing about a wonderful little ice hockey romance. Not going to lie to you guys but I am an absolute sucker for a classic ice hockey romance. I know that it's not for everyone but i really enjoyed this one. It's the first romance book I've gotten to read for a while so I was really happy I was able to enjoy it.
Our Overtime tells the story of Jules, a single mum who plans to move back to her hometown with her son Canyon to start a new life. What she doesn't account for is running into her childhood love. As Jules and Canyon try to start their new life, we watch as old friends start new adventures and navigate the problems of the past.
I really really enjoyed this book just because of how cliche it was, and I know that's not for everyone, but for me, at this time, it was just such a good thing. It was so nice to watch all the characters interact together and there were no scenes that I found really boring either, which in itself tells you all you need to know about a romance book. This book is full of tropes that I think everybody needs to read at least once and it was the perfect break book for me.
I absolutely adored all of the characters in this book so so so much. The fluffy scenes were so well written and I would say that there is a good amount of tension laced throughout the book. And while it is mainly a romance, i also liked seeing a single parent doing what she does best and the Mother and Son relationship too.
Happy Reading,
Mei x
The writing style was also really nice and it made it really easy for me to finish the book quite quickly. The book is a dual perspective and gives great character insight, and is able to touch on the background emotions with the characters very easily. One thing that I found tricky when reading this was the fact that it jumps between past and present on two different timelines. It wasn't a major deal for me because I was able to pick it up quite quickly, but I can see that being a struggle for some people.
Overall I love this book; It's a very good ice hockey romance and I would recommend reading this book and the rest of the series if you're a sucker for a small-town romance like I am.
