Throttled by Lauren Asher: A Review
Hello everyone! This week I'm writing about Lauren Asher's debut novel 'Throttled'. Her novels have been sitting on my TBR for a while, and I've been really excited to dive into her writing. One thing I love about these books is that they have simplistic and subtle covers that tie straight into the main themes of the novel. I've got to love a romance that has a pretty cover.
As always, one thing I really enjoyed was the dual perspective of the book. Seeing things from both Maya's and Noah's points of view was really engaging because it kept the plot moving while also giving the characters more than a face. There was a lot of character development that I really enjoyed and seeing a good slow burn was refreshing.
One thing I found when I was reading was that there was quite a lot of variation between time jumps in the book. The whole story takes place over the space of about ten months and the time between chapters varies from a few weeks to a few hours, which confused me a little at times.
The book follows the lives of Maya Alatorre, a post-grad young lady who is travelling with her brother Santiago and trying to find out where she wants to go next, and Noah Slade, a Formula 1 legend in the making, and Santigo's new teammate. As the pair spend the whole season together, they are forced to get to know each other and eventually form a heartfelt bond.
I was really intrigued when I discovered these books because I had never heard of an F1 romance, but the book was really light and fluffy, a brilliant read for between my exams to give myself a break. Overall, I enjoyed this book a lot and look forward to reading the rest of Asher's works. I recommend this to anyone looking for a light romance read, it's the perfect 'break' book and the rest of the series is just the same.
Happy reading,
- Mei x
