Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire saenz: A Review

For this blog, I chose a more cosy book to talk about that I enjoyed reading. I fell in love with everything about this book, the characters, the plot, and the realism of it all. I was reading this book everywhere I went. In school, on the train, and the bus, I took the book so I could have hoped to finish reading it.

I might be being a bit dramatic about just how much I enjoyed this book but I enjoyed this book down to the last page. It is not overly sentimental, has no super sexy erotica, and has no decadent proclamations of love. It is simple and sweet and everything that needs to be said. nothing more and nothing less.

The book is about two Mexican-American teens trying to navigate the world when they find each other. The boys seem to be polar opposites to each other but throughout the book, the characters bloom and blossom, their beautiful story unfolding for us to read

I won’t give away the ending, but the book had me thinking for a long time after. It didn’t end quite the way I expected it to, but I now see it ended the best way it could, as Ari learns how to reject the story others have written for him and write his story himself.

Happy reading,

-Mei
