Love By Night by S.K Williams: Poetry Appreciation
Poetry has had me in a chokehold recently and I just had to switch it up this fortnight to show you one of my favourite books right now!
'Love By Night' by S.K Williams is one of the most charming poetry books that I own. Some people think that love poetry is very cliche, but this book just seems to have the perfect balance of emotions. It is the book that I pick up when I'm deep in my feelings and some of the poems really are very relatable.
If you ask any of my reading buddies, I've always been very picky when it comes to the poetry that I read... With most things just not hitting the spot. But I think that this book is a perfect introduction to poetry for any reader. It tells the story of two people falling in love and takes you into the minds of someone who is falling in love. There are moments of doubt, happiness, loneliness, adoration and fulfilment, that are presented in beautiful poems over 5 volumes.
I think my favourite poem in the book is one of the first, on page three:
I get paralysed by the things I don't know
the outcomes I can't see
of the choices, i can't make
possible mistakes
or leaps I can't take
to unknown lands
with unknown things
Will things change
or will they stay the same?
Will I ever be whole
or only ever broken
and is this it -
or is there more?
Happy Readings!
- Mei
