Until I Met You by Amber Rose Gill: A Reveiw
Back-to-school vibes this week! I've been super busy trying to get my life together, so I apologize for the later-than-usual post...
...But I'm back to talk about one of the fluffiest books I have read this year! 'Until I Met You' was one of the books that I first heard about at the Book-Tok Picadilly Waterstones event in the summer. I got my hands on a beautiful signed postcard with a lovely message from Amber and picked up a copy of the book as well. It was published very recently in early July this year.
If you loved all the feels of 'The Unhoneymooners' and 'The Spanish Love Deception' thank this book is just perfect. It is the perfect blend of pure fluff (no spice) and angst which I enjoyed. This book was my first read of the Autumn and I enjoyed it while snuggled up with a big fluffy blanket and a cup of hot chocolate.
Here is our plot Summary: Samantha was expecting the holiday of a lifetime in Tobago with hopes of launching her travel blog and her best friend's wedding. what she did not expect was that she would go to Tobago - single. The last thing she needs is a chance run-in with the angsty guy of the resort, and after a less-than-nice interaction, Samantha learns that he is the best friend of the groom - they are stuck together for this entire trip. Toss in some drama and drinks and soon romance blooms in the bridal party.
There are a few main reasons I like this book, for example, in no way, is it completely unrealistic or overly idealistic. Samantha doesn't just suddenly get over her heartbreak and the healing process of a break-up is beautifully demonstrated with her character. Roman isn't a complete red flag and is also faced with his own issues that create some division between the pair. I also really like the representation in the story of characters of different cultures.
Sometimes books like this can have a bit of a flimsy timeline but this book had that all handled. there were no massive gaps in the flow of the plot and the 'flash-backs' were short and sweet. It was a very cliché and fluffy romance which some people didn't like, but I found it a nice light read that I could enjoy between my school schedule and coursework. I would say that the book is a good read for anyone above 12 as it is a nice simple plot and is easy to read.
I think this book is a solid 4.5 stars!
Happy Reading,
- Mei
