In Deeper Waters by F.T. Lukens: A Review

Hello all! With my first blog post being on the first day of Pride month 2022, I thought, what better way to start my blog than a mesmerizing LGBTQ+ novel?
'In Deeper Waters' is a stunning book that was published in April last year and I feel that it deserves a little more attention from you readers!

In my opinion, this book is perfect for anybody who likes a bit of romance and fantasy. The language in the book is easy to understand making it suitable for teen readers too.

Here is a brief plot summary: As sixteen-year-old prince Tal embarks on his coming-of-age tour he knows he cannot participate in the wild adventures his siblings enjoyed on theirs, not when he could risk exposing his forbidden magic. A few days into his tour, Tal and his crew rescue a mysterious prisoner from a burning, abandoned ship, and everything changes. As Tal discovers an intense connection between him and the roguish Athlen, he begins to befriend the stranger, so when Athlen disappears Tal feels responsible and heartbroken. But when Tal is kidnapped by pirates, it seems that Athlen may be his only hope.

'In Deeper Waters' is a fantastic modern love story with a twist of fantasy. I loved seeing Tal's character develop throughout the novel and almost wish that it was slightly longer. It is beautifully written and had me wrapped up in a blanket reading late into the night, with a cup of hot tea.

My one piece of criticism might be the length of the book. It is relatively short but action-packed, and in some aspects that is a good thing as it makes you unable to put the book down!

Overall, 'In Deeper Waters' is an amazing book that you should read if you get the chance.

Happy Reading,
-Mei
